FAMILIES OF LGBTQ+

It’s common for our youth to have questions and need support with the following:

  • Sexual orientation
  • Gender identity
  • Maintaining healthy romantic relationships with their partners
  • Impact of social oppression including homophobia, biphobia, transphobia, racism, etc.
  •  Relationships moving forward with family, friends, and community

Some children struggle with issues or are undergoing a life transition at a very young age. Additionally, some have already experienced trauma including abuse or family violence. It’s important that they have as much support as possible through these developmental stages.

Economic Social Development Solutions provides open communication for those who need it most. Our goal is to help families understand what’s happening, develop coping mechanisms, and build resilience to future issues.

We help families make sense of and build resilience to cope with a variety of complex struggles

Family Counselling and Parent support/education

LGBT2 youth and their parents have different needs for counselling. We approach this with individual sessions with both parties and eventually come together for joint sessions.

  •   Parents and caregivers can access education and counselling about gender and transition-related issues. This is a supportive space to explore fear, worries, and a multitude of beliefs concerning gender and sexuality
  •   Youth can receive support on any relevant issues in addition to preparing for family sessions
  • In joint sessions support strengthening relationships, home environments, and communication skills. Siblings and other family members may be involved in some sessions, if needed.
